Ren Min Road is the window of Dalian. Located in the eastern area of Dalian, it connects Gang Wan Square and Zhong Shan Square with a length of about 1.32 km. This road plays an important role to both the local people and the visitors, because in one way or another, it relates to their daily lives.
Ren Min Road is as old as Dalian, in 1899; the Russian empire invaded the city and built the road, calling it ‘Moscow Street’. They also built Zhong Shan Square. In 1905, after the Russo-Japanese War, Japan took over Dalian and renamed it to ‘Shan Tong Xian’. In 1945, the Red Army marched into Dalian and the city returned to the Chinese people. Foreign trading companies withdrew and the ‘Shan Tong Xian’ was renamed into ‘Stalin Road’. Then, at the beginning of the 1980s, the road received its current name ‘Ren Min Road’.
After the birth of ‘Ren Min Road’, Dalian began to deal with business issues and recognized the ‘Core Business Center’ in the city. Now, there are plenty of financial-, business-, trade-, information- and intermediary service institutions. Due to the convenient transportation and communication systems, it has turned out to be a high-end business street in the city.
