One minute you're walking down the noisy, crowded Dalian streets, then, just like walking through a magic portal, you are transported in time and space to your happy place. Bright and colorful, with big comfy chairs calling to you, you feel as though, just for a moment, you can actually breathe.
Sit back and relax in the enveloping sofas and get ready to make a difficult decision. When you get the menu, your heart starts to race . . . falafel wrap, mango chicken sandwich, Mediterranean salad plate, beef burger with potato wedges, pumpkin pasta, salami and Gouda Panini, choices, choices, sooo many choices.
All hail Caesar’s salad! With big chunks of bacon, authentic Caesar salad dressing and crispy croutons it’s a meal in itself. The Mediterranean plate is a mound of food including falafel patties, feta cheese, baguette pieces, salad and roasted pumpkin. The salami Gouda Panini with sun dried tomatoes, served with a bean salad on the side, is truly satisfying. And don’t miss the thick and refreshing fruit frappes that are not too sweet and leave you feeling like you did something good for your body.
Now, let’s talk about cake, baby, let’s talk about U no me! Those of you who know me, know I’m a bit of a dessert snob, choosing to go without rather than be disappointed by subpar cakes which are mostly cream. I can often be heard saying, “Well it won’t be as good as mine so there is no point in wasting my money.” But U no me, really does know me!!!! The chocolate cake is a perfect chocolate torte completely coated by a thin layer of semisweet chocolate PLUS a middle layer of dense semisweet chocolate-- NOT cream or mouse! I literally fell off my chair and I had to fight the urge to order another piece. They also offer a passion fruit cheesecake, coconut blueberry layer cake and super moist, nutty carrot cake with cream cheese icing. I will not buy desserts anywhere else from now on.
In addition the efficient, English speaking staff are warm and friendly and anticipate your needs, which is a rare quality in Dalian.
Sated and elated, with the sun streaming in the windows, you feel like you never want to leave. It’s like home only better. Maybe order another coffee or a cake so you can extend your stay just a little longer. And when you finally do leave, all you can think of is the moment when you will return.
