Day 1 Arrive in Xi’an
Airport pick-up, transfer to the hotel. After lunch at the restaurant, we will walk along the Ancient City Wall, the most complete city wall in China. The original foundation was based on the ruins of the Imperial City Wall of Chang'an City - the capital of the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), known today as Xi’an. Explore the jutting ramparts, sentry towers, corner towers, gate towers, battlements, and a series of city defensive fortifications, which were scientifically and compactly laid out with very strong defense capability. Though the wall has been entirely renovated, it still resonates with history.
Then we visit the Forest of Stone Tablets, a series of gardens which contain China's finest collection of calligraphy carved into stone by famous ancient masters, from before the time of paper! Here, not only will we find the works of the most famous calligraphers, but also samples of each of the major calligraphic scripts.
Highlights: Learn to do rubbings in Forest of Stone Tablets Museum, there are lots of stone carvings with different writing systems, you can use rice paper to do the rubbing, if you are interested in Chinese calligraphy, these rubbings would be very valuable. Enjoy the dumpling banquet as dinner, the banquet will feature more than 20 varieties that are stuffed and cooked using a delicious assortment of vegetables, meats and seafood. These dumplings feature harmony between a variety of tastes and textures for an enjoyable eating experience.
Day 2
After breakfast in the hotel, we go directly to visit the Terracotta Warriors. One of the century's greatest archaeological finds - these life-size figures number in the thousands - each seems based on a live model, each having a personality, and history. The main pit is encircled by a ramp offering a sweeping perspective of this massive treasure trove. Viewing of the new excavations is even more rewarding, because one can get close enough to sense the human scale of each individual soldier. Despite the mass of visitors, there is a charged silence about the place. One almost expects a command to ring out, and the warriors will rouse themselves from the 2000-year stillness, and begin to march.
Highligts: The we will pay a visit to the Xia He Village, where the former president Bill Cliton visited in 1998. We will try the local farmer’s food, such as noodles, and also learn how to make dumplings and noodles.
Drive back to Xi’an, we will have a chance to enjoy a shadow puppet show in Gao Jia Da Yuan (Qing dynasty) around Muslim Quarter. Puppet show is one of the local arts in Xi’an, both local and foreign visitors like it very much. We can also meet the artists. Then you will be free to walk around the muslim quarter to experience the unique minority groups’ culture in Xi’an.
